The challenge of tackling climate change
London has set itself an ambitious CO2 reduction target in line with the latest science. By harnessing the efforts of the private sector, public sector and London’s residents, London’s emissions can be reduced by as much as 60% by 2025 without compromising quality of life and improving London’s business competitiveness.
The Green Organisations website from the London Development Agency provides a range of information advice and tools, for large and small organizations, to support them to improve energy efficiency and reduce CO2 emissions.
Why should I act on climate change now?
The moral imperative is clear but there are several other simple reasons to act now on climate change:
- It is good for business.
- Over 78% of consumers surveyed recently indicated they wanted companies to make it easier for them to buy products with low environmental impacts.
- For many businesses 20% cut in energy costs represents the same bottom line benefit as a 5% increase in sales in many businesses.
- Current and pending regulations require it
- It has never been easier
How do I act?
There are numerous steps organisations can take to reduce their carbon emissions and improve their environmental performance. These range from getting to grips with their current carbon emissions, improving their recycling practices, encouraging staff to travel to work on public transport, to improving the energy efficiency of their buildings and sourcing materials carefully.
There area now a range of initiatives to support organisations to take action – many of which are profiled on this site.
