Fiona: A huge amount of your carbon dioxide emissions come from energy consumption in your homes.
Though actually, there’s something you can do about this. You can use technologies like these solar panels for example. These generate energy and quite a lot of energy, even on a day like this. You can also generate energy to power things like your shed light for example.
There’s another way you can harness the sun – there’s a solar hot water panel on the roof. Heat comes down from the panel into this tank heating the water, which then flows into this main tank which supplements the water that’s heated by the condensing boiler. This means you don’t need to use your boiler so much.
There’s something simple that we can all do and that’s change our light bulbs to more energy-efficient ones. They use up to 80 per cent less energy than normal light bulbs and you can even use them in dimmer switches. So you know, we’ve really got no excuse so come on, make that change and don’t forget – look for the label.
