Televisions
What are the benefits of Integrated Digital Televisions?
The age of digital TV is coming, so you need to get ready – 82% of Londoners have already converted their main TV to digital.
With the digital switchover due to take place in most areas of London in 2012, now’s a good time to start investigating how you’re going to watch digital TV.
The best way is to switch to an Integrated Digital Television (IDTV). These are TV’s that can receive the digital transmissions without the need for a set-top box. Most have LCD screens and many are ready to receive High Definition TV when that comes.
IDTVs are effectively TV’s with a built-in Freeview box, but with one power supply rather than two. Unlike many set-top boxes, IDTVs can be switched off without losing their settings so they don’t have to be left on standby.
Always choose a model with the Energy Saving Recommended logo. Products with this logo are guaranteed to be the most energy efficient in their category and so will cost less to run and help prevent climate change.
If you’re not using an IDTV, you might be throwing away £5 a year on your electricity bill. By using just the one appliance you can cut 20 kg of CO2 from your carbon output compared to a similar TV and set-top box.
