Refrigeration
Fridge/freezers with the Energy Saving Recommended logo use over 60% less electricity than a typical old one.
The daily cost of cooling and freezing food and drinks across London’s homes is a whopping £540,000. Each year it costs each London family on average £60 to keep their fridge/freezer running.
But many of these appliances will be old or inefficient models which use far more electricity than is really necessary – and that means more money (and more CO2) than is really necessary.
Energy Saving Recommended products
Fridge freezers with the Energy Saving Recommended logo use over 60% less electricity than a typical old one. This will give savings of up to £37 and 150kg of CO2 a year for a fridge freezer and £16 and 64kg for a fridge.
If everyone in the UK upgraded their old fridges and freezers to Energy Saving Recommended models, we would save nearly £900 million a year and the equivalent CO2 emissions of 600,000 homes.
Products with the Energy Saving Recommended logo are guaranteed to be the most energy efficient in their category and so will cost less to run and help prevent climate change.
Fridges and freezers are the hardest working appliances in the kitchen – they are on the go 24 hours a day, seven days a week, so don’t make their lives more difficult than necessary. Simple things like not over-filling your fridge and leaving any hot, freshly-cooked food to cool before putting it away can make a difference. And don’t forget to shut the door quickly!
