Learn how to lower your electrity bills

Across the UK, DVDs and VCRs consume over £200 million worth of electricity each year. Consumer electronics and computer products are contributing to 30% of the average household electricity bill.

So if you want to cut down your electricity bill, and be kinder to the environment, there are a few things you can do to help you make sure you’re being energy efficient.

Don’t leave your devices on standby

If every household in London switched their appliances off standby, we’d save £89 million a year and save enough electricity to power London Underground.

Lots of Londoners are already changing the way they use their electrical goods at home. Will you join them and try to switch off your TVs, stereos, MP3 speakers, your DVD players rather than leave them on standby?

Ask in store

Ask the sales staff: is the model Energy Saving Recommended? How much energy does the product use when on standby? Does it have any special energy efficient features such as automatic standby which powers appliances down if they are not used for a certain amount of time?

Look out for integrated appliances

Fewer gadgets mean less electricity. Buying an Energy Saving Recommended integrated digital television, which combines a TV with a digital receiver, is good for both your pocket and the environment.
