Reason(s) for contacting Green Homes Concierge Service:

Concern for the environment, desire to make changes which will be affordable in the short-term and save money in the long run.

The news, as revealed in the Green Homes Concierge Service report, that most of Tomas’s heat was escaping through the single-pane windows, was fairly obvious to Tomas, who has worked in construction and is a keen DIY buff. But the advice to install curtain lining came as a refreshing insight to the 34-year-old firefighter.

Green Homes Concierge Service also carried out thermal imaging and an air-tightness test, which entails sealing doors and chimneys before using a non-toxic smoke pen (a small device which lets out a tiny amount of harmless smoke) to show where air was escaping from his property. “This was very helpful,” he said, “as I was able to sit back and actually see where the heat was escaping.”

Tomas was also interested to learn that, although he had recently installed loft insulation, the hatch was not sealed properly and so heat was still being wasted in the rafters. Green Homes Concierge Service helped Tomas to plug this leak and sourced him an electricity reader meter so that he was able to monitor his consumption in the future.

So how was it for Tomas? “I would recommend the service,” he said. “It has definitely helped me to know what to prioritise. Next on my list is to change my boiler…”

Stats:

  • Tomas’s audit results showed that his home was emitting 3.3 tonnes of CO2.
  • If he goes ahead and installs a new boiler along with heating controls for his radiators, he will have saved 1.1 tonnes of CO2.
